Sanjungan NIE untuk Iskandar

(17 August 2016, Wednesday) He has contributed greatly to the local arts scene and has numerous outstanding achievements in the field. However, the biggest contribution of renowned ceramist Dr Iskandar Jalil, 77, is in the form of art education and his effort in sharing knowledge with the younger generation. He began his education career in 1962, and has been working with the National Institute of Education (NIE) for over 50 years. To recognize his achievements and contributions over the years, NIE launched an exhibition titled Dr Iskandar Jalil: Falsafah dan Proses Seorang Pakar Tembikar, which will last for a month at the NIE Art Gallery. This exhibition is the first to showcase the life and work of the Cultural Medallion winner, and how he combined art with science in the ceramics field. After training as an educator in Teacher’s Training College (TTC) in 1962, he received the Colombo Plan Scholarship to continue his studies in pottery in Japan. He then went on to contribute as an educator in various institutions including the Baharuddin Vocational Institute and Temasek Polytechnic, and has also shared his knowledge with the younger generation in community clubs and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Nafa).
