Miri – 1 October 2015 – More than 250 participants have registered to attend the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES 2015) to be held at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) from 4 to 6 December 2015.

The symposium is being organised by Curtin Sarawak’s Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Student Chapter in collaboration with the university’s Department of Chemical Engineering and IChemE Malaysia.

According to Mervyn Ling, Head of Registration for NACES 2015, the symposium has received overwhelming response from both domestic and international undergraduate chemical engineers.

Universities that will be represented at the symposium include Institut Teknologi Bandung, National University of Singapore, Monash University Malaysia, University of Nottingham Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Univerisiti Malaysia Sabah, Univerisiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pasir Gudang, UiTM Pulau Pinang, UiTM Shah Alam, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Meanwhile, organising chairperson of NACES 2015 and president of the Curtin Sarawak IChemE student chapter Low Yi Jin said the number of participants has exceeded expectations and she is looking forward to a very engaging and successful event.

Apart from a very good response from chemical engineering undergraduates, the symposium will also be attended by more than 50 industrial engineers, researchers, and educators.

With the theme ‘Tug of War: Fossil Fuels against Renewables’, NACES 2015 will incorporate seven major technical sessions – Technical Essay Writing, Technical Case Study, Technical PowerPoint Presentation, Technical Debate Competition, Technical Video Presentation, Chemical Engineering Challenge, and Process Plant Design.

The symposium will serve as a platform for chemical engineering undergraduates to demonstrate their creative thinking, effective communication, and technical knowledge in generating innovative solutions to global development issues and challenges.

NACES 2015 is being sponsored by Sarawak Energy Berhad and Top Glove Foundation. It is also being supported by Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, Sarawak Convention Bureau and IChemE Malaysia.
