Following the selection of UTAR to participate in the Google Ignite programme by Google Malaysia in early July this year, 40 UTAR students officially commenced their training programme from 27 July to 11 August 2015 at UTAR Kampar Campus.

Popularly known as Google Ignite, the training-to-internship programme places emphasis on the development of digital marketing skills on Google platforms for final year or internship-ready students. The registered UTAR undergraduates from programmes ranging from Public Relations to Entrepreneurship, underwent an 18-hour training spread over a span of three weeks covering topic such as utilising Google AdWords in digital marketing. Google AdWords is Google’s advertising system in which advertisers bid on particular keywords in order for their clickable ads to appear in Google’s search results.

Students who successfully completed the three module-training provided by Google AdWords Certified trainer and subsequently passed the Google AdWords exam duly received the Google AdWords Certification from Google.

Following the certification, students will then be invited to an exclusive Google Career Fair in October 2015, where they will experience meeting Google’s Business Partners in Malaysia, and also applying for internships.

“When I learnt that the training programme was available at UTAR, I was thrilled and immediately signed up for it,” said Public Relations student Melody Leong Wai Lok, who also added that the training greatly boosted her knowledge in digital marketing, something which she is keen to pursue in her future career. “Being Google AdWords certified also gave me a better edge in applying for internship because the training not only enriched me with knowledge of dealing with clients, but also ignited my idea of starting an online business if possible,” she continued.

UTAR was among the seven selected universities in the country to partner with Google Malaysia for the pilot launch of Google Ignite programme. The other universities include University of Malaya, Limkokwing University, Multimedia University, Sunway University, INTI International University and Taylor’s University.
