The annual festival aims to create a greater awareness among Malaysians of all ages on how to develop thinking, memory and creativity skills.

KAMPAR – 24 July 2015: With the vision of each and every Malaysian unleashing their mind’s unlimited potential and developing their brainpower, the Malaysia Festival of the Mind stages another comeback this time at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar Campus, Jalan Universiti, Bandar Barat, 31900 Kampar, Perak from 8 to 9 August 2015.

A concerted effort by the Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement (MMLM), UTAR and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, the crowd-pulling festival in the past has invited scores of seasoned and qualified speakers and trainers introducing and promoting various techniques and skills pertaining to the improvement of mental literacy among Malaysians. These include memory skills, creativity, thinking skills, personality profiling, mind mapping, emotional intelligence, brainpower, mind power and other memory management tools.

Aptly themed “Sharpening Your Mind, Boosting Your Brain”, the 11th Malaysia Festival of the Mind (MFotM) offers a line-up of enriching talks and workshops ranging from understanding the nature and versatility of the human mind to bringing out the best of the human brain, with the aim of improving our lives.

MMLM Chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik said, “In today’s globalised and competitive world, maximising brainpower is no longer an option. It is a necessity. To excel in life, one needs to adapt oneself and face new challenges intelligently and positively. These new challenges require one to find new and creative ways of problem solving.”

MFotM gains a boost this year by inviting memory expert Melik Duyar to demonstrate his brainpower prowess. The Turkey-born Duyar is an author and mental athlete fondly known as ‘The man who forgot to forget’ and ‘Mr Memory’ by the Turkish media. He is also well-known as one of the pioneer memory athletes. In 1994, he competed in the “World Memory Championship” in London, UK. In this championship he received a gold medal as the ‘World Memory Champion’ of ‘Memorisation of Paintings and Images’ (photographic memory) category and two bronze medals in ‘Memorisation of 12 Packs of Shuffled Cards’ and ‘Flight Disk Challenge’ categories. In the same year he was shown among the ‘World’s Top 10 Memory Mentathletes’ by the Buzan’s Book of Genius published by Random House. In 2005, Duyar founded ‘MEMORIAD™ World Mental Olympics’ in which competitors compete in three main categories of mental sports – memory, mental calculation and speed reading. In 2014, Memoriad World Mental Sports Organisation and Melik Duyar were introduced to the world in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Duyar will be speaking on topics which include ‘Memory Power and The Major System’, ‘Encoding Information and The Method of Loci’, ‘How to Memorise Numbers’ and ‘How to Memorise A Deck of Playing Cards’.

Among the other mind-related talks that will be covered during the festival are ‘Developing Emotional Excellence for Future Career Success’ (Mandarin) by Choong Hoon Guan, ‘How Mindfulness Benefits Learning and Concentration’ by Lily Kong, ‘3 Reasons Why Knowing Your IQ Can Transform Your Life and Career’ by Nic Sim, ‘The MOSTI Funded Brain-Computer Interface Wheelchair Project’ by Prof Dato’ Ir Dr Goh Sing Yau, ‘Dream the Impossible Dream’ by Wong Chooi Yee, ‘Rewiring the Brain via the 7 Secrets Rhythm’ by T.
