Curtin E-Fact Warrior Run now open for registration.

Curtin E-Fact Warrior Run now open for registration.

Miri – 21 September 2015 – The Curtin Excellent Education Facilitating Team (Curtin E-Fact) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) is organising a charity run on 24 October 2015 in aid of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Buri in Bakong.

Themed “Warrior Run: Prove You’re The One”, the run is open to the public as well as students and staff of the university. Its route will include the university campus and the neighbouring Desa Senadin area.

“We hope to raise awareness of the special needs of rural schools in Sarawak through the run. Many are in remote areas and in need of the most basic of amenities,” said organising chairperson, Ahmad Izzat.

He said that his organising committee visited several schools to evaluate the criticality of each school’s needs before deciding which to support this time around.

Curtin E-Fact hopes to see up to 1,000 runners taking part and aims to raise at least RM20,000 for the school. The funds will be used for the maintenance and improvement of the school’s facilities.

The run will have two categories – for those 15 years of age and below and for those 16 years of age and above. The distances for the two categories will vary – 4.5 kilometres for the former and 6.8 km for the latter.

Registration fees will be RM15 for primary and secondary school students, RM25 for Curtin Staff students and staff, RM30 for college students and RM35 for members of the public.

Payment of registration fees can made at Curtin E-Fact promotional booths at selected shopping complexes prior to the run or on the day of the event.

Curtin E-FacT is a group of student volunteers who are committed to promoting learning in the local community through academic and motivational programmes. In addition to the annual charity run, its activities include conducting motivational, leadership, exam preparation, study skills and organisational skills programmes and English camps for primary and secondary school students.
